What will the new Astra be like

September 6th, 2010

With the new Vauxhall for sale at the end of the year and with it going on display for the first time at the Frankfurt motor show in September there is a lot of excitement in the motoring world and the trade press is full of rumours and snap shots of the new model, could this be the time to buy a new Astra.

The Astra has been a popular choice of car in the UK for over 30 years since it firms became available in the 1970s, it has for all that time been an extremely popular choice for families and the newest model looks set to continue that trend with the car that will be available at the end of the year going on sale in a 5 door hatch back.

The higher end specifications for the car include a satellite navigation system, these are better when they are integrated into the design of the cars interior as trying to position the satellite navigation when you add it into your car rather than having it built in means you never get the screen where you want it or the buttons are just not in a natural position, and you do not want to be fiddling with your satellite navigation when you are driving.

The newest Astra has spent a long time in the wind tunnel this has helped the engineers trim and perfect the design to ensure the newest in the Astra line is the most fuel efficient of the family to date.

Attention to detail seems to be the mantra for the award winning designers of the sixth in the Astra series, the news is that they have researched the 20 most popular things that people keep in their car, they then designed storage for these 20 things. This means that the new Astra will have moulded areas for storage and storage space that can be moved and adapted to allow different items to be stored in the same place.

It is small things like the wind tunnel time and the storage options that move a car from the normal family car to the level of family favourite and that is the place the Astra has felt most comfortable for the past 30 years.

Tips To Have A Good Camping Experience

September 5th, 2010

One of the most cheapest but enjoyable vacations for families is camping. Camping is the only activity where groups of people including families can appreciate nature while learning about solidarity, basic survival, and most importantly, bonding with one another. Getting away from it all is a motivational factor among grown-ups who wish to get away from their hectic jobs or kids wanting to take a time off from their school and homeworks.

Ahead of taking your kids camping, make sure that you pick out a suitable spot to settle on and the things you need to bring along. Campgrounds vary in various ways. Some are isolated and some are open. Some are safe while some can present some hazards. Other than this, you should also take into account your kids preferences when it comes to outdoor activities.

An important factor in family camping is the tent/s that will be used. A family of four would either need two medium sized tents or a large one that are roomy enough to shelter each one of them and their camping equipments.

Family camping tents could house a maximum of six to eight members but getting cramped together in one tent is not always thought as something convenient. The desirability of tents with separators are evident to families as they let each member to have privacy. A sense of security for both parents and kids is there by being together in one tent while enjoying their privacy and these kinds of tents often have zippers for each divider.

Having a good camping experience can also be shaped by bringing along other camping equipments. Making an advance list of the other essentials is the best way not to forget. For the list and camping equipments to be more organized, grouping them in categories like gears, cash, foods, medical, utensils, entertainment, etc. will reduce the chance of forgetting each one. The most important of these are food, gears, cash, and medical.

Food and cash are pretty straigforward but gears and first-aid kits need to be thought of carefully. Gears include tents, sleeping bags, hiking shoes, etc. Medicines include iodine, flu medicines, ointments, alcohol, and bandages, gauzes and cotton.

It is also important to consider the foods that kids would eat as these will be their only source of nutrition in the outdoors. Some of their favorite foods at home may not be a good idea to bring along when you go camping. One example is cereals where they usually need milk to be more tastier and nutritious. If the planned camping will last for several days, it would not be a good idea to bring foods that are bound to spoil without refrigeration. Milk and other dairy products fall under these and unless your kids do not mind eating cereals out of the box, it is best to leave cereals and dairies at home. Foods that are suitable in outdoor camping are canned goods, marshmallows, burgers and hotdogs.

Rain during camping is not exactly considered a fun camping experience. A gloomy and wet weather in a camping trip will probably be a downer for kids expecting to go trekking and do all sorts of activities outdoors. Therefore, it is important to have some backup in case mother nature drops one you. Books, board games, audio players and other toys and gadgets are the type of backups kids will enjoy.

How would I do without my housekeeper?

September 5th, 2010

We run a tight budget, but still indulge in a few luxury items and services to make our lives enjoyable. Here’s a list of a few of them.

1. Netflix. We don’t have it running all the time, in fact we like to watch movies for a month then put it on hold for 3 months, then watch another, then hold for 3 more. We don’t have quite enough movies in our list to watch them continuously and our daily lives are too busy anyway. But by putting it on hold it helps in two ways. We’re able to build up a list of movies to watch that are newer releases, and it makes us look like new customers to netflix each time we restart so we don’t have to wait as long for any new release we ask for.

2. House cleaning. This is a major luxury, but also a necessity. With both of us working jobs we don’t have time to clean the house very well. To keep the kids healthy we need a clean house so we pay someone to come in every 2 weeks to clean the bathrooms, kitchen, do some light dusting and vacuuming. Of course light cleaning is still required by us in between, but it saves me the trouble of any serious toilet cleaning and I hate to do that.

3. Dish Network. They are cheaper than the other options out there and they give us a good selection of channels without any hassle. The guide interface is easy to understand and only shows us the channels we subscribe to. Getting a pay per view movie or game is easy and makes sense.

Slot Cars & Slot Car Racing

September 5th, 2010

When someone talks about slot cars or slot car racing, there are a few people that just do not know what you are talking about. So this is to explain to those that are curious. The first slot cars were manufactured by Lionel (USA) in 1912 and were featured in their catalogue that year. It wasn’t until the 1950’s that the slot car tracks were guided by raised rails. 1957 brought about a Scalectrix slot car, which had metal bodies. The Ferrari 375 Grand Prix and the Maserati F250 were among the first cars manufactured, in 1:24 scale.

Slot cars are small model cars, fashioned after their full sized counterparts, even down to the color and decals. A slot car has a blade that extends from the bottom front of the car to the groove on the slot car track. With this swivel blade the car will begin to slide sideways if a curve is taken at too much speed. If the slot car track has a few hills that it has to travel across, the slot car will come off the track if the car is not slowed down in time to go over the hill.

Slot car track comes in two styles; one is the country/city scenic style and the more popular, competitive racing course. The scenic slot car track will consist of the track and travels from miniature cities through the country side viewing fores

ts, mountains, stream, and small communities with post office, and train stations. The more popular course is that of the slot car racing track, which involves many types of twists, and turns, and is more for speed and durability.

The drivers hold their controller in their hands to manoeuvre through the slot car track, enduring all the obstacles and speeds that have to be used. The driver has to know when to speed their slot car up and when to slow it down in order to stay on the track. If the speed is not slowed in time the car will lose its grip from the slot and spin sideways resulting in a crash or it can even come off the track all together. In any event if this happens the driver is out of that particular race.

The slot cars come in a commercially available body with real working engines, which run on static electricity. However, some slot car owners prefer to build their own models created with their own hands using scalectrix slot car materials and parts. The electric motor is hidden beneath the body, and operators can install larger electric engines for the slot car track. The slots are not just restricted to the cars themselves. There are other scalectrix autos such as motor cycles, and trucks that use the same blade system as in scalectrix slot cars.

HO sized slot cars were originally made at 1:87 scales in the 1960’s but later in years they advanced to 1:64 scale so that larger electric motors could be installed to increase the speed of the slot car. Other common scales are 1:24, 1:32, 1:87, and 1:64.

Today the slot car track has even advanced enough that slot cars were made using traction magnets directly fixed to the chassis and a guide pin is used instead of the swivelling flag. This was to help hold the slot car down to the slot car track at faster speeds. However, there are many slot car racing drivers that state that magnet free racing adds more realism to the sport.

Aging & My Parents’ Health Condition

September 5th, 2010

As my mom and dad grow older I become more stressed with their declining health with each new year. They both used to be such robust, healthy individuals. But now it seems every time I visit home I observe some new troubling development with either of their health care.

Last year my mother developed these odd pale spots whenever she was exposed to the sun for more than a few minutes. Thank goodness it turned out to be nothing serious. We found a site which explained the harmless cause of such spots: White Spots From Tanning. This website really assisted us to ease our minds and feel more informed about the truly serious melanoma symptoms we should understand.

Just this year she thinks she began experiencing gluten intolerance symptoms. I advised her to visit the website I linked you to in my last sentence, and now she feels much more confident to face the possibility of a gluten free lifestyle. She is working with her doctor about it now, but we are still not sure if she has Celiac Disease (gluten intolerance) or not.

In the mean time, my dad has recently experienced Barrett’s Esophagus symptoms, something probably more individuals may be experiencing than they realize. While Barrett’s Esophagus isn’t specifically deadly, it can many times accompany more serious problems like stomach cancer and it can be an early indicator of esophagus cancer.

DISCLAIMER: While I hope my little story and the internet resources I found to help my family in turn help you as well, please note that I am not a medical doctor and you should consult a medical professional before taking any medical advice from the Internet.

Wasps Nests Destroyed in Lancashire Manchester Trafford and Cheshire 32 Pounds

September 4th, 2010

Wasps Nests Destroyed in Trafford, Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire 32.00 fixed price no extras.

Throuhout the summer of 2010 Waspgo.co.uk will be destroying wasps nests throughout Trafford and Manchester for a set rate of just 32.00 (44.50 for postcodes (CH, CW & L).

We operate seven days per week including Saturdays, Sundays and evenings and do not charge an extra for evening and weekend wasp nest work.

Wasps nests can normally be dealt with from the outside of the property by injecting a small amount of insecticide into the opening using a special applicator.

It is important to have a wasps’ nest removed before autumn when the new queens which will make the following season’s nests start to be born. Once this starts simply destoying the nest will not deal with these new queens as they are no longer using the nest. A single nest can release about 2000 queens.

During the summer months we give priority to wasp calls as we know that many people can have a severe reaction to wasps stings and it is important to remove the nest as soon as it is discovered. We do our best to provide a same day service but this is clearly constrained by how much work we have on.

It is neither necessary nor desirable to remove the wasp nest itself as it cannot be used again and, being constructed purely of wasp paper will crumble away by itself.

Waspgo.co.uk also offer a range of garden ant treatment some of which it is possible to give a three year guarantee for.
Waspgo.co.uk can be contacted on 0161 452 3165 seven days per week.

Inheritance Tax Law Changes 2009, 2010

September 4th, 2010

What is an Inheritance Tax?

An inheritance tax is also referred to as a death tax because it is a tax that is imposed on all estate money and property after an estate owner passes away and leaves their estate or a portion of their estate to another person.

Who has to Pay the Inheritance Tax?

States that currently collect a tax on inherited estate money or property are Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Oregon, New York, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Iowa. Since each state is likely to tax their residents differently, individuals need to research the inheritance tax laws in their state.

How is the Inheritance Tax Calculated?

Trying to figure out the amount of tax that will be owed depends on two different things:

* The total value of the estate.

* Any arrangements that were made before the time of death.

What Changes can I Expect for the Upcoming Year?

The exemption amount has been increased from $2,000,000 to $3,500,000. That is an additional $1,500,000 that you may inherit before having to pay taxes.

There are online services available to help you determine your liability for inheritance tax. There are many benefits to preparing your tax return online. For example, if you have experienced any life changes throughout the year (marriage, new baby, have bought or sold a house) an online service can help. I have found TurboTax Online to be a great service.
